Bismarck-Mandan Convention & Visitors Bureau To Help Host Firefighter Combat Challenge 30th Anniversary National Tour

In a partnership with the Bismarck Event Center, Bismarck Fire Department and Mandan Fire Department, the Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visitors Bureau (BMCVB) announced that they are helping to host the Firefighter Combat Challenge 30th Anniversary National Tour, Friday-Saturday, July 9-10, 2021. The event will take place in Lot C of the Bismarck Event Center.

Dubbed by ESPN as the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports,” the Firefighter Combat Challenge 30th Anniversary National Tour celebrates First Responder heroes/heroines supporting public safety. Participants race against an opponent and the clock, simulating the rigorous physical demands of real-life firefighting. The Challenge encourages a lifelong commitment to physical fitness, health and wellness – all in support of public safety.

Sheri Grossman, BMCVB CEO, said, “We are thrilled to be able to bring this event to Bismarck-Mandan. This event will bring competitors from all over the United States as well as be a fun spectator weekend. It will be a great weekend to celebrate our firefighter heroes and heroines and cheer them on with this entertaining sports competition. We are honored to be a location for the 30th Anniversary National Tour.”

Chad Nicklos, Mandan Fire Department, said, "The Firefighter Combat Challenge will be a way to reinforce the importance of fitness in the fire service, as well as educate local people on some of the tasks that we do when responding to calls. We are excited to welcome the event to Bismarck!"

“The Bismarck Fire Department is committed to providing a high level of service to our community. Physical fitness is a large part of the job and is a priority within our organization. We are excited the Combat Challenge is coming to our community and look forward to sharing camaraderie with our neighboring departments and those from the community who attend,” said Ray Martinez, Bismarck Fire Department.

The Challenge consists of five course evolutions: High-Rise "Hose Pack" Carry, "Donut Roll" Hose Hoist, "Forcible Entry" – Keiser Force Machine, "Hose Advance" and "Victim Rescue."

Additional events are being planned, including a Kids Firefighter Challenge. It is a scaled-down version of the combat challenge with full-size fun. Each child carries a shoulder load of hose, climbs through an inflatable tunnel and tests out an actual firehose!

We are excited to welcome the national firefighters to the Bismarck-Mandan Firefighter Combat Challenge and we hope that our local and rural firefighters will take advantage of having the competition so close to home.
